Nearly half the material previously was unissued.
Singer Jeri Brown is out with her ninth CD for Canada's Justin Time label. "Firm Roots" is a project Brown calls "one woman's point of view about living during these particular times." Her collaborators include saxophonist Seamus Blake, bassist Avery Sharpe, drummer Wali Muhammad and pianist Tony Suggs.
Justin Time is also out this spring with "Ethnomusicology, Volume 3" by trumpeter Russell Gunn's band. Gunn is continuing his interesting fusion of jazz, funk and hip-hop, complete with turntable effects.
