Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe , Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Today is Feb. 2. Stan Getz, one of the greatest tenor saxophonists in jazz, was born this day in 1927 in Philadelphia. His playing was always distinguished by a floating melody and a featherweight tone, and nobody played a more poignant ballad. Getz's 1960s bossa nova albums, which helped introduce Brazilian music in the United States, were but a very small part of his musical interest. Getz died in 1991. Advertisement Sony Stitt, one of the great jam session players on saxophone, was born this date in 1924 in Boston. The former Miles Davis sideman died in 1982. Looking at today's hip happenings...
