MUSIC AND MORE TOURING CHIEFTAINS MISS THEIR MATE When Paddy Maloney heard his Irish band the Chieftains had been nominated for two Grammy Awards, he didn't feel the same level of happiness that comes with such an achievement. He thought of his longtime bandmate, harpist Derek Bell, who died suddenly last October at age 67. Maloney still can't believe that Bell, who started playing with the band in 1973, is gone. "He's gone in body only, really, because he'll live on in the hearts of anyone who knew him and anyone who heard him play," he tells the Ventura County (Calif.) Star. Advertisement The Chieftains, currently on tour, are up for best contemporary folk album for "Down the Old Plank Road" and for best country instrumental performance for the album's "Sally Goodin" track, a collaboration with Earl Scruggs. FAITH ADDED TO CMT FLAMEWORTHY AWARDS SHOW Faith Hill has been added to the lineup of performers for the CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards this spring. Hill joins Shania Twain and Kenny Chesney performing for the awards show at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville. The Flameworthy Awards -- country music's only music video awards show -- was seen by 6.3 million people in 2002, its inaugural year, CMT says. The two-hour awards show will be carried live by CMT on April 7. VINCE READY TO HIT THE ROAD Vince Gill wrapped up a five-night run at a Nashville club and soon will hit the road for a small-venue tour that begins in Las Vegas Jan. 30. The show draws material from throughout his career and showcases new songs from his soon-to-be-released "Next Big Thing" album. He's playing 33 songs -- including all 17 from his new album -- in the two-part show, backed by a nine-member band. Advertisement The Nashville shows were staged at Exit/In, the same club where he played steel guitar behind Ricky Skaggs 26 years ago.
