A collector of Elvis memorabilia was the winning bidder for a small jar of hair that was on the block at online auctioneer mastronet.com, the Chicago Tribune reports. The buyer's name was kept secret.

Presley's barber, Homer Gilleland, gave the clippings to Memphis retiree Tom Morgan before he died in 1995. Morgan wanted to sell the hair to raise money for his retirement.

Bidding was slow after the auction opened Oct. 28 but picked up until the price reached $50,000, when three bidders battled it out near the sale-closing time Saturday.
