Drummer Don Lamond was born this day in 1920 in Oklahoma City. He joined the first Woody Herman band in 1945 as a replacement for Dave Tough, and was a member of Herman's Second Herd. Throughout a long career, he recorded with a wide array of players, including Serge Chaloff, Bob Crosby, Quincy Jones, Willie The Lion Smith and George Russell.

On this day in 1932, singer Mildred Bailey first recorded "Rockin' Chair" for the Victor label in New York City.
