TISH HINOJOSA BUSTED ON DRUG CHARGE

Singer-songwriter Tish Hinojosa was arrested on drug charges last week after police said she and a friend tried to smuggle pills across the border from Mexico into Laredo, Texas.

The 46-year-old Hinojosa and her friend, Jason Phillips, were charged with intent to distribute drugs, a federal charge that carries a punishment of up to 20 years in prison. They were released on $25,000 bond.

Hinojosa claimed they were tricked into buying 30 tablets of the date-rape drug rohypnol, and thought they were purchasing ecstasy, a "club" drug that heightens physical sensation.

After telling customs inspectors they had nothing to declare, officers found the pills in Phillips' boot. Hinojosa immediately took the blame and said the pills were hers.
