Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe , Aug. 6 (UPI) -- SPRINGSTEEN TOPS IN ENGLAND Bruce Springsteen's "The Rising" (Columbia) debuted at No. 1 on the British album chart and is expected to follow suit in the United States when strong opening-week numbers are counted. "The Rising," Springsteen's first new studio set since 1995's "The Ghost of Tom Joad," pushed the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "By The Way" (Warner Bros.) out of the top spot after a three-week run. Springsteen now has hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom with five albums dating back to 1984's "Born in the U.S.A." The others are "Tunnel of Love" (1987), "Human Touch" (1992), and "Greatest Hits" (1995). Advertisement DEAD VERY MUCH ALIVE Grateful Dead fans left the two-night "Terrapin Station" reunion concerts at Alpine Valley convinced their favorites are on the road again. The Other Ones, made up of the surviving members of the Grateful Dead with guitarist Jimmy Herring replacing Jerry Garcia, who died in 1995, played two nights of memorable music and fans obeyed directives not to swarm the East Troy, Wis., site without tickets. The band now will proceed with its previously announced tour. Advertisement Surviving members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, who had not played together in public since Garcia's death, were joined by pianist Rob Barocco and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. YARDBIRDS LIVE AGAIN England's Yardbirds, known for featuring such legendary guitarists as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, are recording a new album. The band has lined up at least one British superstar guitarist to appear on the record, Brian May of Queen. Other "eminent guest performances" are on the record, according to drummer Jim McCarty's Web site. The revised Yardbirds, now led by McCarty and guitarist Chris Dreja, expect to release the album in March of 2003. SHRIMP & PETROLEUM ON TAP Some of the biggest names in cajun and zydeco music are slated to perform later this month in Morgan City, La., at the 67th annual Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival. Wayne Toups, Rosie Ledet & the Zydeco Playboys, Rockin' Dopsie Jr., Jo-El Sonnier, Louisiana's LeRoux and Hunter Hayes are among the acts booked for the Aug. 30 through Sept. 2 event, which also will include a gospel tent featuring more than 30 Louisiana gospel groups. Advertisement SKYNYRD GUITARIST IN SHATNER FILM Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke has written four songs for the soundtrack to a film by Star Trek icon William Shatner. Medlocke also has a featured role in "Groom Lake," scheduled for late 2002 release. Medlocke wrote "Diamond Ring," which features a guest vocal by Skynyrd singer Dale Krantz Rossington, "Go For Love," "Driving Angry" and "Fire on the Mountain."
