The other brothers in the Jones triumvirate are drummer Elvin and the late trumpeter Thad Jones. Advertisement Bebop guitarist Kenny Burrell was born this day in 1931 in Detroit. Guitarist Stanley Jordan was born this day in 1959 in Chicago. He opened up the contemporary possibilities for the jazz guitar with his technique of hammering on the guitar strings with his fingertips rather than plucking them. On this day in 1942, Harry James recorded "I've Heard that Song Before" with Helen Forrest on vocals. It was his last recording until November 1944, coming just one day before a recording ban was imposed by the musicians' union in a prolonged battle over royalties.
