Trumpeter, bandleader, writer and broadcaster Humphrey Lyttleton was born this day in 1921 in Eton, England. His professional career began in 1947 with George Webb's Dixielanders. Lyttleton formed his own Louis Armstrong-inspired band a year later.

On the recording front...
In July, the Blue Note label will record jazz titans Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Dave Holland and Al Foster in a supergroup known as O. They first got together two summers ago for a European tour and will record coming off an Asian tour this summer.
Guitarist Chuck Loeb is out with a new Shanachie recording called "All There Is." Special guests include Kirk Whalum, Jeff Kashiwa, Andy Snitzer, Will Lee and Carmen Cuesta.
Singer Lenore Zenzalai Helm's newest CD is called "Precipice." The Baoule Music release features her with pianist Stanley Cowell, bassist Tarus Mateen, drummer Nasheet Waits and trumpeter Duane Eubanks.
