Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe LOS ANGELES, May 19 (UPI) -- Musician Marc Anthony, the Showtime series "Resurrection Blvd." and the feature film "Piñero" picked up three awards each in Los Angeles Saturday night as the National Council of La Raza handed out the 2002 American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards, honoring outstanding achievement by Latinos in film, television and music. Performance in a music, variety or comedy special: Marc Anthony, "Christmas at Rockefeller Center" (NBC) 1 Advertisement Anthony won for performance in a music, variety or comedy special ("Christmas at Rockefeller Center," NBC), Spanish language album of the year ("Libre") and male performer of the year. "Resurrection Blvd." -- which led the field with eight nominations -- won for TV series of the year, supporting actor in a TV series (Luis Avalos) and script for a TV drama or comedy (Adam Fierro, "Bruja"). "Piñero" -- based on the life of Puerto Rican-born hip-hop poet Miguel Piñero -- was named outstanding motion picture and screenplay. Benjamin Bratt won for best actor in a motion picture for his performance in the title role. "Tortilla Soup" -- which had the most nominations in the movie categories, seven, took just one award. Elizabeth Peña tied with Elpidia Carrillo of "Bread and Roses" for supporting actress in a motion picture. Advertisement Laura Elena Harring of "Mulholland Drive" won for best actress in a motion picture. Andy Garcia of "Ocean's Eleven" won for supporting actor in a motion picture. Robert Rodriguez was named best director for a motion picture for his family action-comedy Spy Kids." The Showtime movie "In the Time of the Butterflies" won for best made for TV movie or mini-series. Its star, Salma Hayek, won for best actor/actress in a made for TV movie or mini-series. Esai Morales "NYPD Blue" and Rita Moreno "Oz" were named best actor and actress in a TV series. A Martinez of "General Hospital" and Eva Longoria of "The Young and the Restless" won for best actor and actress in a daytime drama. Shakira won for album of the year, "Laundry Service," and female performer. Jennifer Lopez took the music video trophy for "Love Don't Cost a Thing." Ozomatli was a double winner, for Latin group and breakthrough artist/group. The National Council of La Raza honored Antonio Banderas with its Anthony Quinn Award for Achievement in Motion Pictures, and named John Leguizamo Entertainer of the Year. Music veteran Freddy Fender picked up the Ritchie Valens Pioneer Award, and Ricky Martin received the Vanguard Award. Advertisement In separate, non-televised ceremonies on Friday, Miramax received a special award for Excellence in Diversity and Franc Reyes received the "Emerging Filmmaker Award." Saturday's awards show at the Shrine Auditorium, hosted by comic-actor Paul Rodriguez, was taped for telecast over ABC on June 1.
