A Los Angeles judge told the actor he was "not opposed" to bail, but he couldn't decide the issue until he has heard evidence in the case. Advertisement Blake had urged Superior Court Judge Lloyd Nash to let him out on bail, saying he needed to be free to assist his lawyer, Harland Braun, in preparing his defense. "This is my right to fight for my life," he said. The Emmy-winning actor, star of the 1970s cop drama "Baretta," was arrested last month and charged in the May 2001 slaying of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. A hearing has been scheduled for May 21 to set a date for a preliminary hearing. Blake made a stunning revelation, telling the court that he is dyslexic and cannot read the tens of thousands of pages of documents that investigators have collected as part of their case against him. "This is my chance to fight and I can't do it from that cement room with thousands of pages I can't read," he said. Advertisement Earle Caldwell, Blake's 46-year-old chauffer-bodyguard, was charged with conspiracy. He was released on $1 million bail posted by Blake on April 26. The four children of Bakley have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Blake. ROSIE O'DONNELL The longtime partner of Rosie O'Donnell, Kelli Carpenter, is now "in family way." People magazine reports Carpenter has known about the pregnancy for several weeks. The father of the yet-to-be-born child remains anonymous. Meanwhile, Rosie -- who already has three adopted children -- says she'd like to have five or six. One friend of the couple tells the publication that O'Donnell and Carpenter are very close and should be good parents. The TV talk host and magazine publisher is 40 and will soon give up her popular daily show to work for charitable groups and crusade for the adoption of children. (Thanks to UPI's Dennis Daily) HALLE BERRY Halle Berry plans to produce and star in a remake of the 1974 Pam Grier movie "Foxy Brown" -- with a view toward turning the assignment into a franchise. In the original, the title character seeks revenge when gangsters kill her government agent boyfriend. Producers of the remake say they plan to bring the story up to date and make it a "larger-than-life" vehicle for the Oscar-winning Berry, with a screenplay by Tyger Williams ("Menace II Society.") Advertisement Berry has also signed to produce and star in "Brown-Eyed Girl" -- described as a story about the life and loves of a modern woman. (Thanks to UPI Hollywood Reporter Pat Nason) 'BOBBIE'S GIRL' Bernadette Peters, Rachel Ward, Jonathan Silverman and Thomas Sangster will star in "Bobbie's Girl," a Showtime Original Pictures For All Ages, which will premiere June 9 (at 8 p.m. ET/PT) on the cable network. It's the story of a young boy who comes to live with his lesbian aunt and her eccentric partner in a seaside village outside Dublin after losing his parents in a car accident. The film is one of the last two projects produced by the legendary Howard W. Koch, Sr. before his passing. MOTHERS DAY Television's most beloved moms turn contestants in the Game Show Network's Mothers Day salute on May 11 (9 p.m.-12 midnight ET/PT). "The Mother of All Game Shows" showcases women who are not only moms in real life -- such as Florence Henderson, Shirley Jones and Marion Ross -- but also played them on TV. The three-hour event includes classic episodes of "Hollywood Squares," "Password Plus," "Tattletales" and "Family Feud" -- where TV moms compete both with their television brood and actual family members -- as well as a special episode of Game Show Network's newest original, "Whammy!
