The event is set for April 13 in New York City, RollingStone.com reports. The concert is part of the weeklong Rainforest Awareness Week, which also includes Central Park Run for the Rainforest and a benefit at a SoHo art gallery. The Rainforest Foundation was founded by Sting, his wife Trudi Styler and Menkragnoti Kayaop Chief Ranoi in 1989 in an effort to protect the world's rainforests. 'N SYNC Lance Bass of 'N Sync wants to go 'N Space. A spokesman for MirCorp -- which brokered last year's flight of the first space tourist, millionaire Dennis Tito --aid they're negotiating with Bass's people to send him where no pop star has gone before. Right now, the only way for non-professional astronauts to get into orbit is via the Russian Space Agency, which flies two missions a year to the International Space Station. Two cosmonauts pilot the Soyuz capsule and a third seat is available for researchers or paying customers. Tito paid about $20 million for his ride; a second space vacationer, Mark Shuttleworth -- who's scheduled to blast off in April -- has said his flight is costing about $5 million more because he wants to conduct some experiments while aboard the station. Advertisement If Bass passes all medical tests and is deemed flight-worthy, the launch would be targeted for November. 'N Sync is scheduled to perform at the closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics. LIZA'S ALL-STAR WEDDING According to gossip columnist Liz Smith, Liza Minnelli will have not one but two maids of honor when she marries David Gest, and 15 bridesmaids -- most of them household names. Elizabeth Taylor and Marisa Berenson ("Cabaret," "Barry Lyndon") are the maids of honor. The list of bridesmaids includes Mia Farrow, Claudia Cardinale, Janet Leigh, Esther Williams, Gina Lollobrigida, ABC News reporter Cynthia McFadden, singers Mya, Freda Payne, Chaka Khan and Petula Clark -- and even a New York gossip columnist, Cindy Adams. The list also includes socialites and businesswomen Rosemarie Lieberman, Nabila Khashoggi and Arlene Lazare, and British musical star Martine McCutcheon. Gest will have two best men to go with Minnelli's two maids of honor -- Michael Jackson and his brother, Tito. His roster of groomsmen is also star-studded -- including Jackie, Randy and Marlon Jackson, James Ingram, Tony Franciosa, Robert Wagner, Nasdaq's David Weild, Plax inventor Allan Lazare, Frankie Blue, Grammy winner Michael McDonald, sports agent Dennis Gilbert, American Airlines' Tom Gleason, actor Tristan Rogers and vineyard/entertainment manager Bruce Cohn. For balance, Gest also has a journalist among his attendants -- Hollywood reporter Robert Osborne. Advertisement Smith said the list of performers for the celebration following the March 16 wedding at New York's Regent Hotel is so lengthy that if every act does only one number, the show will go on for days. The lineup includes Whitney Houston, Tony Bennett, Robert Goulet, Little Anthony & the Imperials and the Doobie Brothers. "Alice" and "Blood Money" were both written and produced by Waits and his wife and long-time collaborator Kathleen Brennan. Waits won a Grammy Award for his last album, "Mule Variations." (Thanks to UPI's Mike Cooper in Atlanta) ECHOBRAIN Metallica's Jason Newsted and his bandmates in Echobrain spent last week shooting the video for their first single, "Keep Me Alive." The video combines psychedelic outdoor shots in San Francisco with performance footage -- much of it filmed using an old eight-millimeter camera, MTV News reports. And unlike the band's promo photos and album art, which obscure frontman Dylan Donkin's face, the video will finally reveal the singer's mug. Advertisement "We've intentionally kept it all mysterious until now," Newsted said. "I wanted it to be trippy and abstract without being too arty. The music has tons of layers of different textures and players. That's how the video is, too: very bright and vibrant and colorful. Just think of 'Wizard of Oz' colors and wild poppy field sh--. Blue, blue skies, super-green greens." Echobrain's self-titled debut album comes out March 5.
