BOX OFFICE: ANOTHER BIG HARRY DEAL

The second weekend of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" continued breaking the nation's box office records, raking in an estimated $58.6 million at 3,672 theaters during the Friday-Sunday period.

Warner Bros.' mega-hit about a young English wizard topped the previous three-day Thanksgiving holiday record of $57.4 million, set in 1999 by "Toy Story 2." "Harry" also took in $83.6 million during the five days from Wednesday through Sunday to beat the "Toy Story 2" record by more than $3 million.

The 10-day total leaves "Harry" in line to match 13-day record set two years ago by "Star Wars Episode 1 -- Phantom Menace" as the fastest movie to hit the $200 million mark.

"Harry" -- already the 41st highest domestic grosser of all time by surpassing "Gladiator" -- looks likely to take in well over $300 million by the end of the year. If it can top $400 million, it will be only the fourth film to do so after "Titanic," "Star Wars" and "Phantom Menace."

Finishing an impressive second was Disney's fourth weekend of "Monsters Inc.," followed by the opening Universal's "Spy Game," a thriller starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt.

20th Century Fox's time-travel comedy "Black Knight" came in fourth, followed by Fox's third weekend of "Shallow Hal" in fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 were "Out Cold," "Domestic Disturbance," "The Heist," "The One," and "Life As A House."

PATRIOTIC MONTAGE SOON IN THEATERS

Coming soon to a theater near you, a three-minute blockbuster of a montage of Hollywood's best patriotic moments. It's a cross between the much-loved montage of clips from the history of movies so often seen on AMC and a kind of mini version of "That's Entertainment."

A cadre of Hollywood production groups and unions joined forces to put the short film together. Called "The Spirit of America," published reports indicate that it will contain more than 130 clips -- everything from "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," with "Everyman" Jimmy Stewart, to last summer's "The Patriot," will Mel Gibson.

Theaters will have the option of showing it anywhere they wish during a night's movie agenda. Miramax says it will save it until last ... presumably for those who don't stay and read the credits.

LIZA MINNELLI

Liza Minnelli is getting married again. Her publicist said the entertainer and producer David Gest will tie the knot March 2, 2002, in New York City.

The pair met while Minnelli was appearing on Gest's production of "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration," which was edited down from Jackson's two concerts at Madison Square Garden in September.

The couple was introduced by Jackson, who, with his brother Tito, will serve as Gest's "best man" at the ceremony. Both Michael and Tito as well as their brothers have been friends with Gest since childhood.

This is Minnelli's fourth marriage and Gest's first.

Minnelli will be the subject of a Gest-produced television tribute in March 2002 that will feature Michael Jackson and Minnelli in a 10-minute dance number taken from Vincente Minnelli's film "The Band Wagon." Also slated to appear in the tribute are: Whitney Houston, Mya, Usher, Chaka Khan, Chita Rivera and Joel Grey --- among others.
