'MY VH1 MUSIC AWARDS'

Mick Jagger, Creed, Sting, Nelly Furtado, Lenny Kravitz, Destiny's Child and No Doubt will perform at My VH1 Music Awards '01, airing live on VH1 on Dec. 2 (at 9 p.m. ET/PT) from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The host and additional performers for the ceremony will be announced as they are confirmed.

The list of nominees has also been finalized. U2 and Dave Matthews Bands are tied for the lead with 6 nominations each, followed by Gwen Stefani with 5. Staind and Alicia Keys have 4 nominations -- followed by Bon Jovi, Moby, Train, and the Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya & Pink collaboration for "Lady Marmelade," who all received 3 nominations apiece.

MICHAEL JACKSON

As he continues trying to resurrect his career, Michael Jackson will make his first-ever in-store appearance this week. Jackson will appear at the Virgin Megastore in New York City's Times Square on Wednesday (at 3 p.m. EST) to celebrate his new album, "Invincible," which was released Oct. 30.

"Invincible" is Jackson's first studio album in six years. The 16-track album features guest appearances by Carlos Santana and the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. as well as collaborations with producers Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley and Babyface.

BOYZ II MEN

Boyz II Men have a great hits album coming out Nov. 13.

"Legacy" (The Greatest Hit Collection) contains 14 tracks from the band's four Universal/Motown multi-platinum albums, including the No.1 hits "End Of the Road," "One Sweet Day" (with Mariah Carey) "I'll Make Love To You," and "4 Seasons of Loneliness" as well as "On Bended Knee," "Pass You By," "Hey Lover" (with LL Cool J) and "Motownphilly."

'THE WASH'

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Busta Rhymes and Bubba Sparxxx are featured on the soundtrack album for the motion picture "The Wash" (on the Aftermath / Doggystyle / Interscope Record label). The action-comedy stars Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and George Wallace. The movie is set against the backdrop of a busy car wash, where disgruntled employees must put their differences aside in order to rescue the owner who has been kidnapped.

The album hits stores Tuesday.

ROGER McGUINN

Roger McGuinn, a founding member of The Byrds, is using the Internet to introduce young people to traditional folk music.

That's according to online publisher Reveries (reveries.com).

Back in 1965, McGuinn used a technology called the 12-string electric guitar to introduce kids to folk-rock. This time around, however, McGuinn's medium of choice is not 45s and radio airplay, but audiofiles and the Internet, which he calls "the new radio."

"The Internet is kind of the kids' domain," said McGuinn. "They live and breathe it. So it is a good way to reach them."

In 1995, McGuinn began building online collection of folk songs called "Folk Den," which now features about 70 songs -- all available for free download at his Web site (mcguinn.com). Among other things, Folk Den spawned behind a newly released CD, "Treasures from the Folk Den" (Appleseed), recorded with folk legends Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Judy Collins, among others.

Despite his current focus on traditional folk music, McGuinn said he's planning to record a new rock CD. "I certainly have enough material for a good electric CD," he said. "I plan to do that in the near future."

However, he rules out a reunion of the Byrds, which he led with singer David Crosby. "It wouldn't be a satisfying thing for me to do," McGuinn said. "It may satisfy some fans. I get a lot of people e-mailing me about that. But it wouldn't be any fun. I think it would dilute the legacy of The Byrds." He said the result would "fall under the category of merchandising" more than music.
