'THE CONCERT FOR NEW YORK'

Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel and Marc Anthony have been added to the all-star line-up for "The Concert For New York." They join previously announced artists Paul McCartney, The Who, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Macy Gray, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge and India.Arie in taking part in the four-hour live performance on Saturday, Oct. 20, (at 8 p.m. ET) at Madison Square Garden.

The concert will benefit the victims of the Sept. 11 attack on New York City and pay tribute to the spirit of New York and the heroism of the rescue workers who worked tirelessly to save others. Five thousand members of the New York Fire, Police and Rescue crews and their families will be in attendance as guests.

The show will be telecast live and commercial free on VH1 and will be simulcast on the VH1 Radio Network and Westwood One. All broadcasts will feature a phone number and Web address for charitable donations.

JOHN LENNON TRIBUTE

TNT's John Lennon tribute concert aired Tuesday night (at 8 p.m. ET) on the cable network.

"Come Together: A Night for John Lennon's Words and Music" at New York's Radio City Music Hall raised money for relief efforts in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The concert initially was to be taped last month for airing Oct. 9 but was postponed after hijackers flew hijacked jetliners into the World Trade Center Twin Towers and the Pentagon.

Performers included Alanis Morissette, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Matthews, The Isley Brothers, Lou Reed, Marc Anthony, Moby, Nelly Furtado, Shelby Lynne, Stone Temple Pilots and Yolanda Adams.

'WHAT'S GOING ON'

A new "rock remix" -- produced by Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst -- of the All Star Tribute version of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" has hit the airwaves.

"Fred Durst's Reality Check Mix" of "What's Going On" features vocals by Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros, Elijah Blue and Bono backed in part by Limp Bizkit drummer John Otto and bassist Sam Rivers, and Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch.

The song is one of seven superstar mixes appearing on a special CD (on Columbia Records) that hits stores Oct. 30. Sales will benefit the September 11th Fund of the United Way, Artists Against AIDS Worldwide, The Global AIDS Alliance, and other charities.

VH1 VOGUE FASHION AWARDS

Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and John Mellencamp will be among the performers at the 2001 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, to be presented Oct. 23 (at 9 p.m. ET) in New York City.

Other celebrities expected to appear at the seventh annual show include No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, hip-hop queen Lil' Kim, rapper/record mogul Sean "Puffy" Combs, singer Enrique Iglesias, rocker/actress Courtney Love and singer Nelly Furtado.

The hosts will be announced at a later date.

The nominees for the category of "Visionary Video" were selected online by visitors to VH1.com. They include:

MY VH1 MUSIC AWARDS

"Damn I Wish I Wrote That!" and "Is It Hot in Here, Or Is It Just My Video?" are among the award categories suggested by fans for the upcoming 2001 My VH1 Music Awards.

The votes were cast online at VH1.com. Preliminary nominees include artists such as Dave Matthews Band, 'N Sync, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Staind, U2, Destiny's Child and Weezer.

My VH1 Music Awards -- the only fully interactive music awards show -- will air live on VH1 Dec. 2 (at 9 p.m. ET) from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

As determined by the fans, the award categories are:

Fans can go to VH1.com through Oct. 24 to narrow down the nominations to five finalists in each category. The final nominees will be announced in early November, at which time fans will begin voting for a winner. Voting will continue right up to the moment the awards are presented.

The host and musical guests for the 2001 My VH1 Music Awards will be announced at a later date.

'CITY OF HOPE' CONCERT

Sheryl Crow and No Doubt's Gwen Stefani have been added to the all-star line-up of artists who'll perform a Motown musical revue as part of this year's City of Hope Spirit of Life Award dinner.

The event --- being held next Thursday on the Universal Studios backlot -- honors Vivendi Universal Executive Vice Chairman Edgar Bronfman, Jr. Proceeds will establish an honorary research fellowship in Bronfman's honor at the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute.

Other artists already announced include India.Arie, Mary J. Blige, Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Daltrey, Melissa Etheridge, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Jonny Lang, Shelby Lynne, Smokey Robinson, Richie Sambora, Sisqo and The Temptations.

COLD

Cold headlines the third annual fall Cutty Sark Rock the Boat Concert Tour. The road trip kicked off Tuesday in Allentown, Pa., and will hit more than 40 cities before winding up Nov. 30 in New York.

Cold recently released "Bleed," the fourth single from the band's second album, "13 Ways to Bleed on Stage" (on Geffen Records). The CD features collaborations with Aaron Lewis, the lead singer of Staind.

STEREOPHONICS

The Stereophonics have landed a coveted opening spot on U2's "Elevation Tour." This will be the British trio's first trip to the United States since their sold-out acoustic tour in February. They hook up with U2 starting Oct. 27 in New York.

The Stereophonics recently opened for U2 in a series of European dates. Their latest album, "Just Enough Education To Perform" (on V2 Records), has been certified double platinum in the United Kingdom.

MARIAH CAREY

Mariah Carey has another gold record --- the 18th of her career. "Loverboy" is the first single from the "Glitter" soundtrack, her Virgin Records America label debut.

The album itself entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at No. 6, marking Mariah's eighth consecutive top-10 album debut.

The next release from the "Glitter" soundtrack is "Don't Stop," which features rapper Mystikal. A video for "Don't Stop" was recently shot in and around New Orleans.

"Glitter" -- Carey's film debut --- opened nationwide last month.

CREED

The first single from Creed's upcoming new album (on Wind-up Records) will be released to radio next Wednesday. "My Sacrifice" is the band's first new material since its 10-times-platinum album "Human Clay" was released. Creed's Mark Tremonti and Scott Stapp wrote the song.

The new CD, titled "Weathered," is scheduled to reach stores Nov. 20.

'LOST' CARL PERKINS SONG TO BE RELEASED

During his last-ever recording session, rock-a-billy pioneer Carl Perkins recorded a song called "The Fireman." It was never released. Now the producer of that 1998 recording session, Bob Johnston, tells country.com that the song will finally be made available on CD and on a Web site. Proceeds from the sale of "The Fireman" -- which, by the way, is a spoken word recitation by Perkins -- will go to benefit New York City firemen and their survivors.

The song will also be released in January as part of a compilation to be called "Celebration." That CD will also feature material by Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty and others.

NINE INCH NAILS

A new live album from Nine Inch Nails hits stores Dec. 4. "nine inch nails live: and all that could have been" (on nothing records) documents the band's sold-out "Fragility v2.0" concert tour.

The CD, produced by Trent Reznor, contains 16 songs and is the first-ever live album from NIN. Seminal NIN songs are featured, including "The Wretched", "Head Like A Hole," "Wish," "Closer" and "Hurt." A limited edition version of the CD will include a special bonus disc containing select NIN songs recorded live in a deconstructed fashion, as well as some brand new material.

Meanwhile, the DVD/VHS -- produced by Reznor with Rob Sheridan directing -- contains 18 songs, which recreate the Fragility concert experience from beginning to end, using video footage shot over the course of the entire U.S. tour.

The band's official Web site, nin.com, currently features the first trailer. Leading up to the release date, the site will offer sneak previews along with the latest news, images, streaming audio and video, contests, and more.

CYPRESS HILL

Cypress Hill has a new album coming out Dec. 4.

"Stoned Raiders" (on Columbia Records) is the altera-rap band's first full-length studio outing since 2000's platinum-selling "Skull & Bones" and its first album since last year's "Live At The Fillmore."

The CD features guest appearances by Kurupt, MC Ren & King Tee, Redman & Method Man, and Kokane. Also appearing on "Stoned Raiders' are Fear Factory's Christian Olde Wolbers, Andy Zambrano and Jeremy Fleener of SX-10.

Two singles and videos will be simultaneously released to different radio formats on Oct. 23. "Trouble" will impact Alternative and Rock Radio while "Lowrider" will hit Urban, Crossover and Rap Radio.

DESTINY'S CHILD

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, at least according to the recording industry. On Oct. 30, Columbia Records will release "8 Days of Christmas," the latest CD from Destiny's Child.

The seasonal album features holiday classics and original songs, largely co-written and co-produced by the trio's Beyonce Knowles.

'MIRACLES HAPPEN 2001'

Dido, Sarah McLachlan and Carly Simon share the spotlight with Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and others on the third volume of Arista Records' fund-raising album.

"Miracles Happen 2001," a 10-song compilation CD will be sold exclusively in the more than 500 Ann Taylor and Loft women's retail stores nationwide. 100 percent of the net profits will be donated to support a fundraising event to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing research, education, screening and treatment for breast cancer.

The all-star line-up of female artists also includes Morcheeba, Natalie Merchant, Brand New Heavies, Beth Orton and Dionne Warwick.

SOUNDTRACK FROM 'SERENDIPITY'

New music from evan and jaron, Shawn Colvin, Heather Nova, Chantal Kreviazuk, Wood, John Mayer and Alan Silvestri are featured on "Serendipity: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture" (on Columbia Records). The soundtrack album hits stores Tuesday.

Tracks from Bap Kennedy, David Gray, Annie Lennox, Nick Drake, Louis Armstrong, and Brian Whitman also are included on the CD.

"Serendipity" is a romantic comedy starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. It opens nationwide on Oct. 5.

KISS

Now through Oct. 21, Showtime's Web site (SHO.com) will offer viewers pay-per-view on-demand access to a two-hour KISS event featuring "The Last Kiss," a 90-minute concert, plus backstage footage, interviews and more. The concert will feature the four original KISS members -- Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss -- in full make-up.

"The Last Kiss" was filmed live at the band's homecoming concert at the Continental Arena in New Jersey and initially aired as a televised pay-per-view event in October 2000.

BON JOVI'S DAVID BRYAN

Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan was in Boston Tuesday to help AT&T Broadband and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation donate $125,000 worth of musical instruments to five Boston public schools.

Bryan also spoke to the students about his experiences with music education. "I was lucky enough to have a great music teacher who inspired me to stick with the piano," he said earlier. "Anything that can help nurture young talent and support music education is a plus and I am happy to be that plus in this case!"

ALICE COOPER

Alice Cooper is welcoming the public to his nightmare.

On Thursday, the rocker and Phoenix, Ariz., restaurant owner opened "Alice Cooper's Nightmare," a Halloween haunted house featuring a combination of high-tech Hollywood and rock 'n' roll special effects --- many of which were created by Distortions Unlimited, the designer of Cooper's tour effects, including the requisite guillotine.

The haunted house is located next to Alice Cooper'stown. It'll be open Wednesdays through Sundays, Oct. 4 through Oct. 21, and nightly from Oct. 22 through Nov. 3.

A special grand opening was held Thursday, with 100 percent of proceeds to benefit the Sept. 11 Relief Funds.
