Carol Burnett’s awarded $1.6 million in libel damages

Entertainer Carol Burnett is all smiles on March 26, 1981, after a Los Angeles jury ruled that the National Enquirer libeled her in a gossip column implying she was drunk in a Washington restaurant and assessed $1.6 million against the tabloid.
