Glenn Jr. suited up in his Mercury pressure suit during training exercizes prior to the February 20, 1962, Mercury-Atlas 6 liftoff from Cape Canaveral. The flight would make him the first American in orbit. .Glenn returns to space aboard the space shuttle Discovery October 29 to be the subject of a variety of experiments on aging.
