Byzantine Monastery Unearthed In Rosh Ha-Ayin

Byzantine Monastery Unearthed In Rosh Ha-Ayin

An overview of part of a 1,5000 year old Byzantine monastery from 500 CE, unearthed by the Israeli Antiquities Authority in Rosh Ha-Ayin, near Tel Aviv, Israel, December 30, 2015. The monastery was discovered because archeologists must inspect all new building sites and a new neighborhood is being built in the area. The monastery housed a church, an oil press, residential quarters for about 30 people and stables. There is a Greek inscription in colorful mosaics that reads "This place was built under Theodosius the priest. Peace be with you when you come, and peace be with you when you go, Amen".
