Kathleen Kennedy Townsend

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, 31, wondered if she would have any interest in politics after her father, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, died from an assassins’ bullet the night of his 1968 California Democratic Primary victory in his bid for the presidency. Her uncle, Sen. Ted Kennedy proved her wrong. She’s glad he did. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has his eldest niece directing his campaign for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate that could set the stage for a Democratic Presidential bid in 1984. (UPI Photo/Files)
