Tourists VisIt the Mati Temple Grottoes in Wangye, China

Tourists visit the Mati Temple Grottoes near Wangye, northwest Gansu Province, on Saturday, June 19, 2021. The ancient temple, also known as the Horse's Hoof Temple, is a protected Tibetan Buddhist site with over 70 caves hand carved into the cliff. According to legend, Chinese Pegasus once landed on the cliff and left a mark on it, and thus the temple got its name. Tourism in Gansu Province, the seventh largest administrative district in China, accounts for nearly half the province's annual revenue while remaining one of the poorest provinces in the country.
