An abscess the size of a small orange was removed from Bing Crosby’s left lung on January 14, 1974 during a 1-1/2 hour operation. Doctors said “no indication of cancer” was found in the 69-year old crooner. They also said Crosby tolerated the surgery in one of his rare public appearances, the Old Groaner, Bing Crosby, accompanied by his wife Kathy, entertains the old folks at Laguna Hospital in San Francisco on December 22, 1975 very well and was reported in satisfactory condition.
