IRANIAN WINS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

Shirin Ebadi from Tehran, Iran, won the Nobel Peace Prize 2003 "for her efforts for democracy and human rights," it was announced on October 10, 2003. Born in 1947, Ebadi is a professor at Tehran University where she is seen in this photo from 2000. (UPI/Ahmad Moeni Jam)
