NASA's Ares 1-X Flight Test Vehicle launches at 11:30 AM from Complex 39B at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida on October 28, 2009. The $445 million experimental launch was conducted with over 700 sensors to determine stresses on the vehicle during ascent. The Ares rocket will become the backbone of NASA's Constellation program, supporting the International Space Station and eventually return Americans to the moon and beyond.
