Ted Kennedy and wife Joan leave for the funeral of Mary Jo Kopechne

A solemn-faced Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, wearing a neck brace, and his wife, Joan, leave Hyannis for the funeral of Mary Jo Kopechne on July 22, 1969. Miss Kopechne was killed when an auto driven by the Senator plunged off a bridge on Martha’s Vineyard on July 19th.
