TWO DAY OLD AFRICAN PAINTED DOG PUP SURVIVES FLOODED DEN
One of two, 2-day-old, African Painted dog pups (also known as Cape Hunting dogs, considered the rarest of African carnivores), is shown October 30, 2005, after surviving a flooded den at Mountainview Conservation Society near Vancouver, British Columbia. The mother ate the other drowned pups to control the odors and protect the rest of the pack from attack. (UPI Photo/Tim King)
