Chicago Police and DEA Seize Eight Tons of Cannabis in Chicago
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy (L) along with other participating members of the CPD, Drug Enforcement Agency and Illinois State Police, hold a news conference to announce the seizure of approximately 16,000 pounds of cannabis on June 28, 2012 in Chicago. A joint task force of CPD, DEA and Illinois State Police personnel seized the marijuana, which has a street value of over $40 million, Tuesday as part of an ongoing, long-term investigation. The Chicago City council voted Wednesday to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana allowing officers to issue a written violation for possession of 15 grams or less rather than make an arrest.
