Dixie Fire Consumes More than Half Million Acres in California
An aerial view taken on August 12, 2021, shows the devastation caused by the Dixie Fire after it burned through Greenville's historic Gold Rush-era town. As of August 14, the Dixie Fire had burned more than half a million acres, becoming the second-largest fire on record in California. It is still less than half the size of the August Complex, which burned more than 1 million acres in 2020. Photo by California Office of Emergency Services/UPI
