USCP Announces Death of Officer Brian D. Sicknick Due to Injuries Sustained During Election Protest
The United States Capitol Police announced that Officer Brian D. Sicknick passed away on January 7, 2021, due to injuries sustained while physically engaging with protesters during the riots over the presidential election certification on January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol. Officer Sicknick returned to his division office and collapsed before being taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Pro-Trump mobs breached the security perimeter and penetrated the U.S. Capitol to protest against the Electoral College vote count that would certify President-elect Joe Biden as the winner.
