SATELLITE MAP SHOW NEW ORLEANS UNDER WATER
IKONOS satellite photo released and collected by Space Imaging shows the dramatic flooding in New Orleans and contrasts the relative dry part of Metairie in Jefferson Parish due to Hurricane Katrina. The 17th Street Canal divides Orleans Parish from Jefferson parish and is shown as a vertical line at the left of the image. Part of its levee wall broke to the New Orleans side allowing the waters from Lake Pontchartrain (north and top of image) to inundate New Orleans to the right, or east in the image. The smoke is from a warehouse blaze along the river. The Superdome can be seen at the lower left center of the image, with the nearby business district and French Quarter next to the Mississippi River. Across the river is New Orleans West Bank at lower center, and it remained relatively dry. MANDATORY CREDIT: SPACE IMAGING (UPI Photo/IKONOS/Space Imaging)
