Chicago Police and DEA Seize Eight Tons of Cannabis in Chicago
Approximately 16,000 pounds of cannabis, seized by a joint task force operated by the Chicago Police Department, Drug Enforcement Agency and Illinois State Police, is displayed at a news conference on June 28, 2012 in Chicago. The marijuana, which has a street value of over $40 million, was seized Tuesday as part of an ongoing, long-term investigation. The Chicago City council voted Wednesday to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana allowing officers to issue a written violation for possession of 15 grams or less rather than make an arrest.
