Winners of the 2019 Nobel Prizes are Announced
American Gregg Semenza, the C. Michael Armstrong Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, along with fellow compatriot William G. Kaelin, Jr. and British scientist Peter Ratcliffe, was on October 7, 2019, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on identifying how cells sense changes in oxygen levels and adapt to them; revolutionary work for treating cancer, anemia, strokes and high-altitude sickness.
