Total Solar Eclipse occurs over Cerro Tololo Observatory in Chile
As the moon eclipses the sun, a phenomenon called "Bailey's Beads" occurs during the start of totality during a total solar eclipse at the AURA Cerro Tololo Observatory near La Serena, Chile on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. The rare event occurs as the moon's orbit places it directly in front of the sun. Bailey's Beads are caused by the mountainous topography covering parts of the sun as the moon slips in front of the solar disc. Photo by Joe Marino/UPI
