Federal Grand Jury Indicts Militia Members for Plotting to Abduct Michigan Governor

On December 17, 2020, United States Attorney Andrew Birge announced that a federal grand jury had indicted six men with conspiracy to kidnap the Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer. The six had previously been charged by complaint; however, under the United States Constitution, the government must present such a felony case to a grand jury and obtain an indictment in order to proceed with the prosecution.
