Curiosity's first images from Mars
This NASA image composition taken on August 6, 2012 is the first two full-resolution image set of the Martian surface from the Navigation cameras on NASA's Curiosity rover, which are located on the rover's "head" or mast. The rim of Gale Crater can be seen in the distance beyond the pebbly ground. Curiosity, which successfully landed on the Martian surface on August 6, 2012, is NASA's newest Martian rover equipped with a host of sensors and cameras with the mission goal to assess whether Mars ever was, or is still, an environment able to support microbial life.
