Eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano Triggers Evacuations
Lava from Fissure 7 slowly advanced to the northeast on Hookapu Street in Leilani Estates on the Island of Hawaii, often called the "Big Island," on May 5, 2018. Eruptions in the lower East Rift Zone of Kilauea Volcano continue as the island was hit on May 4 with a 6.9 magnitude earthquake, the most powerful on the island since 1975 according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from the subdivisions of Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens. Photo by USGS/UPI
