Palestinians commemorate the 71th anniversary of Catastrophe Day in Gaza
Palestinian protesters hold an effigy depicting US President Donald Trump during a demonstration commemorating the 71st anniversary of the "Nakba" in Gaza City on May 14, 2019. "Nakba" means "catastrophe" in Arabic, in reference to the birth of the state of Israel 71-years-ago in British-mandate Palestine, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who either fled or were driven out of their homes during the 1948 war over Israel's creation. The key symbolizes the homes left by Palestinians in 1948, more than 760,000 Palestinians, estimated today to number 5 million with their descendants, were pushed into exile or driven out of their homes.
