Security checks along the U. S. Southern Border
SDP2001101111-11 OCTOBER 2001 - SAN YSIDRO, CALIFORNIA, USA: Automobile commuters wait in line October 11, 2001 at the busiest border crossing in the world at the port of entry in San Ysidro, California just south of San Diego. Security by the US Customs and the US Immigration has become tighter after the September 11 attacks on the United States. With morning commutes to cross the border from Tijuana, Mexico to San Diego, California taking up to 4 hours by car and 2 hour on foot many commuting Mexicans working or going to school in the US have taken up Bicycling to speed their crossing time to ten minutes at high peak periods. With fewer areas to search on a bicycle they can cross the border and lock their bike to a fence and board the trolley for the rest of their commute north. ec / EARL S. CRYER UPI.
