NASA Completes the Successful Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission

On Monday, September 26, 2022, NASA successfully completed its Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission, crashing a vending machine-sized spacecraft into the asteroid Dimorphos, which is the size of a football stadium and poses no threat to Earth. This asteroid system is a perfect testing ground to see if intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid is an effective way to change its course, should an Earth-threatening asteroid be discovered in the future.
