Women filmmakers protest at the Cannes Film Festival
Women filmmakers, including Kirsten Stewart, Lea Seydoux, Khadja Nin, Ava DuVernay, Cate Blanchett and Agnes Varda, arrive on the red carpet protesting how few of them have been honored in the history of the festival during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals on May 12, 2018 in Cannes, France. Eighty-two women participated in the protest, symbolizing the number of films that have been directed by women since the festival began. More than 1,600 films directed by men have been honored in the 71 year history of the festival. Photo by David Silpa/UPI
