UPI Pictures of the Year 2013 -- NEWS AND FEATURES

In a photograph of the original teletype dispatch, a UPI dispatch first reports that "Three shots were fired at President's Kennedy's motorcade today in downtown Dallas", on November 22, 1963. UPI reporter Merriman Smith grabbed the only mobile phone in the White House press car traveling in the presidential motorcade to make the report to the UPI Dallas office that then relayed the story worldwide at 12:34 p.m. via UPI Teletype Machines. The 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination will be marked on Friday, November 22, 2013. UPI
