Missouri Governor signs legislation to provide tools to fight opioid addiction
Missouri Governor Eric Greitens displays a bottle of Narcan before signing legislation that will provide tools to fight opioid addiction, in Olivette, Missouri on July 18, 2017. Senate Bill 501 allows anyone who, in good faith, seeks emergency assistance in the case of a drug overdose to do so without threat of prosecution related to possession. SB 501 also gives approval for the Director of the Department of Health and Senior Services to issue an order making life-saving medication (Narcan) to reverse the fatal effects of opioid overdoses available across the state. Narcan is a medication used to block the effects of opioids, especially in overdose. Photo by Bill Greenblatt (UPI)
