800 trees being torn down on Gateway Arch grounds
Workers using chainsaws and heavy equiptment begin removing nearly 800 ash trees on the Gateway Arch grounds in St. Louis on November 3, 2014. The trees, which are at the end of their life are nearly 50 years old and are being removed in advance of the arrival of the emerald ash borer beetle, which is expected to destroy many of the trees. New trees will be planted in 2016 as a part of the CityArchRiver 2015 project to rejuvenate the St. Louis riverfront. UPI/Bill Greenblatt
