The White House is not only for the President. As excited as people are to learn about presidential candidates, they are usually just as excited to learn about their wives and husbands who may be filling the position of First Lady, or perhaps in this election, First Man. Here are some of the spouses of hopeful 2016 presidential candidates.
High school sweethearts Marco and Jeanette Rubio married after seven years of dating. Prior to their marriage, Jeanette was briefly a cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins. Jeanette was not very visible during her husband's 2012 campaign for his Senate seat, citing that she wanted to be there for their four children to provide them a balanced life. Slovenian-born Melania Knauss had a successful modeling career and graced the covers of Vogue, Vanity Fair, and other fashion magazines before her marriage to Donald Trump. Since their wedding and the birth of son Baron, Melania has launched a jewelry line for QVC.

As husband Rand Paul was establishing his career as an ophthalmologist, Kelley helped compose written content and conduct administrative work for Rand's business. Just before Rand's entry into politics, Kelley began freelance writing and was hired by the political consulting group, The Strategy Group for Media. Since her husband's time in the Senate, Kelley has written books about her family history and works closely with charities that help veterans. Being that his wife is the first First Lady of the United States to run for office, President Bill Clinton has already made a name for himself in politics. Hillary and Bill Clinton met during their time as law students at Yale University. Prior to Bill Clinton's presidency he served as Attorney General and Governor of Arkansas.

Hong Le Webb
Hong Le Webb is the third wife of former Virginia Senator Jim Webb. A Vietnamese immigrant who arrived to the U.S. when she was 7 years-old, Hong Le received a law degree from Cornell University and worked as a corporate securities lawyer in Washington D.C. The couple have one child together.

Karen (far right) worked as neonatal intensive care nurse before she was recruited as summer intern by Rick Santorum for the Kirkpatrick and & Lockhart law firm. Karen quit work so that she could spend her time raising the couple's 7 children. She has authored 3 books inspired by her family.

Senator Ted Cruz and wife Heidi met while serving as policy aides during George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign. Since her time spent in politics, Heidi has used her master's in business administration from Harvard to enter the private sector, including her most recent position as managing director at Goldman Sachs' Houston branch. As her husband pursues the White House, Heidi has taken unpaid leave from work to support her husband and their two children.

The former First Lady of New York and wife of George Pataki brought her passion for activism to the state capital. During her husband's time as governor, Libby primarily championed women's health issues and promoted New York's agriculture industry. The couple has four children together.

Candy met her husband Ben Carson when they were both attending Yale University. As she stood by her husband's side during his career as a famous neurosurgeon, Candy became a concert violinist and raised their three children. The couple co-founded the Carson Scholars Fund, which awards college scholarships to students who have demonstrated community service and high level academic performance.

The former First Lady of Maryland met her husband former Governor Martin O'Malley when they were both law students in Maryland. After her graduation, Katie served as Assistant State Attorney in Baltimore for 10 years. She was then appointed as an Associate Judge for the First District of Maryland. Katie maintained her position as a judge through her husband's time in the Governor's office.

Jeb Bush met his wife Columba when he was 17 and went to teach English near her hometown in Mexico. They were married three years later in Bush's home state of Texas. During her time as First Lady of Florida, Columba advocated for victims of domestic abuse and substance abuse. Columba is also a patron of the arts, and works to promote young artists. Jeb and Columba have three children.

Mary Pat Chrisite
Mary Pat and husband Chris Christie met while attending the University of Delaware. While Chris entered a life of politics, Mary Pat earned her master's in business administration and started working for investment firms on Wall Street. Since her time as New Jersey's First Lady, Mary Pat has been an active fundraiser for charities directly benefitting New Jersey, including her role as chairman of the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

Anita Perry was heavily involved in medical and health issues before and during her time as the First Lady of Texas. Before assuming the role, Anita received a degree in nursing and worked in emergency rooms. She later moved on to work as a pharmaceuticals consultant for the PR firm MEM Hubble Communications. During her time as first lady Anita was an advocate for victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

The First Lady of Louisiana and wife of Governor Bobby Jindal, Supriya Jindal graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and master's in business administration. While currently working on The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana's Children, an organization aimed to improve science and math education in grade schools, Supriya is working on her PhD in marketing.

Current First Lady of Wisconsin Tonette Walker met her husband Scott at karaoke night back in the 90s. For 20 years Tonette worked in the insurance industry handling claims before moving to work at the American Diabetes Association. Her advocacy issues as First Lady include rehabilitation efforts for teens with substance abuse, domestic trauma victims, and financial aid program to provide relief to those affected by the 2011 Japan earthquake.
