Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescoes recreated in photos in New York City(10 images)
Near life-size photographic reproductions of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescoes are on display at the Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center from June 23 to July 23, 2017 in New York City.
Thirty-four works have been reproduced close to their original size based on photographs taken by Austrian photographer Erich Lessing and members of his archive after the restoration of the frescoes, which took place between 1982 and 1994.
"There are few works of art as beloved as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes. We are thrilled to showcase this beautiful exhibit in our centers across the country and give viewers the chance to
experience this artwork in an up close and intimate way," said Scott Sanders, Westfield’s creative head of global entertainment. Photo by John Angelillo/UPI
"Westfield is tremendously excited to bring this stunning display to the U.S. and to give many people across the country a once in a lifetime chance to view these works for themselves," Sanders said. Photo by John Angelillo/UPI
