Agathe von Trapp, a member of Austria's iconic singing von Trapp family, died on December 28, 2010 at the age of 97. The "Sound of Music" character Liesl, played by Charmian Carr in the film, was based on her. U.S. filmmaker Blake Edwards (left), the acclaimed director of the Pink Panther film series, died on December 15, 2010 at the age of 88. Variety.com first reported his death, noting actress Julie Andrews (right), his wife of 41 years, and four children were at his side. "There is a great deal of hypocrisy about public reaction to sex comedies," Edwards said in an interview in 1988. "They will laugh in theaters and later profess to have been shocked or disgusted." Celebrated jazz saxophonist and flutist James Moody died of pancreatic cancer at a hospice in San Diego, on December 9, 2010, at the age of 85. Moody started his career with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie shortly after World War I and continued performing well into the 21st century. He was known for his distinctive sounds and was equally fluent on both tenor and alto saxophone, a relatively rare accomplishment in Jazz. (UPI Photo/ Jim Ruymen)
