New York Mets agree to $30M deal for P Jeurys Familia

Dec. 13 (UPI) -- The New York Mets have have agreed to a contract with closer Jeurys Familia.

Sources told MLB.com and The Athletic that the deal is for three years and $30 million. The transaction is pending a physical.

Familia, 29, posted a 3.13 ERA and had 36 games finished and 18 saves in 70 appearances last season for the Mets and Oakland Athletics. The right-handed reliever made his Major League Baseball debut in 2012 with the Mets and remained with the team before being traded to the Athletics in July.

Familia had 17 saves and a 2.88 ERA in 40 games with the Mets last season before the trade. He had one save and a 3.45 ERA in 30 appearances for the Athletics. He owns a career 2.73 ERA and has 124 saves and a 17-19 record in 343 appearances during his seven-year tenure.

The 2016 All-Star led Major League Baseball with 65 games finished in 2015 and 67 games finished in 2016. He also led the league with a career-high 51 saves during the 2016 season.
