LONG BEACH, Calif., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- NBA Hall-of-Famer Nate "Tiny" Archibald was hired Tuesday as head coach of the American Basketball Association champion Long Beach Jam.
Archibald, a member of the NBA's 50th anniversary all-time team, is the only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring and assists in the same season. He accomplished that feat in the 1972-73 season, averaging 34 points and 11.4 assists per game with the Kansas City-Omaha Kings.
Archibald succeeds another former NBA player, Earl Cureton, who was hired as coach of the ABA's Orange County Crush earlier this month.
Archibald earlier was coach of the Fayetteville Patriots of the NBDL.
