EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Patrick Elias scored his second goal of the game with 2:43 left in overtime Saturday afternoon to give the New Jersey Devils a 2-1 win over Washington.
Taking advantage of traffic in front of the net, Elias buried a rebound of defenseman Brian Rafalski's point shot under the stick of goaltender Olaf Kolzig from the left of the crease for his 15th goal.
Rafalski also was involved in Elias' power-play tally 46 seconds into the second period, picking up the second assist. Elias beat Kolzig over the glove after a centering pass from Scott Niedermayer.
The Devils snapped a three-game losing streak at Continental Airlines Arena, where they are 11-7-3-1 this season.
Jaromir Jagr scored early in the opening period for the Capitals.
With All-Star Martin Brodeur resting, Corey Schwab made 18 saves in his third appearance of the season. He is 2
1, previously posting a 2-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Dec. 27.
