COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- New York Giants receiver Amani Toomer and Kansas City Chiefs fullback Tony Richardson unloaded food aid for warehouse storage in Sri Lanka Wednesday.
The trip arranged through the U.N. food program is part of a two-week effort to raise awareness of the plight of the Tsunami survivors. As part of a four day visit to Sri Lanka the players are scheduled to distribute food to families Thursday.
The WFP said in Colombo, it is actively engaged in assisting and delivering supplies, such as rice, canned fish and cooking oil, to more than 1 million tsunami victims.
"We are thrilled to have these two great players here in Sri Lanka to raise awareness about the critical work we do in Asia, as well as the rest of the world," WFP Country Director Jeff Taft-Dick said.
