MLB: LA Angels 6, N.Y. Mets 1

ANAHEIM, Calif., June 18 (UPI) -- John Lackey held the New York Mets to one run on six hits over 7 2/3 innings Tuesday and the Los Angeles Angels zipped to a 6-1 win.

The Mets' loss came in the first game since bench coach Jerry Manuel was promoted to interim manager following the firing of Willie Randolph.

Lackey (4-1) struck out seven and walked just one en route to his third straight winning start. Scot Shields got his second save by getting the last four outs.

The Angels' offense was led by Torii Hunter, who drove in two runs and scored another. Jeff Mathis hit a solo homer.

New York starter Johan Santana (7-5) surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in six innings as the Mets stumbled after winning three of four coming into the game.

David Wright got the Mets' only RBI, grounding into a double play that scored pinch-runner Damion Easley.
